Best home water filtration systems: the short answer
The best home water filtration system is the one that matches the job: tankless reverse osmosis (RO) under the sink for drinking and cooking water, countertop RO where the plumbing cannot change, or a whole-house filter at the main line. Waterdrop sells all three, with the G3P800 at $999.00, the K19-SFK at $349.00 and the WHF3T-PG at $369.99. iSpring and AquaTru are the rivals to price against it. All prices are one-time figures read on October 14, 2026.
Start from your water. A city utility sends a Consumer Confidence Report, its annual drinking water quality report, by July 1 each year, and EPA's CCR search tool finds yours if it did not arrive. EPA says a private well owner should test every year for coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids (TDS) and pH.
The report or the test names what is in the water, and the system you pick needs a certification that names it too. Drinking and cooking water come from one tap, while a whole-house filter treats every tap in the home.

A tankless RO unit stores no water and relies on a pump, which in Waterdrop's units needs power. The G3P800 is $999.00 and rated 800 GPD (gallons per day, the membrane's output over a day rather than the flow at the tap), with a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio, meaning one gallon to the drain for each three gallons of treated water.
Waterdrop says IAPMO R&T certified it to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 58 for the claims on its Performance Data Sheet, the certifier's list of what the certification covers.
iSpring's RCC7 is a tank system at $229.99 that iSpring says is Certified to NSF/ANSI 58. NSF/ANSI 42 covers chlorine taste and odor, 53 covers health-related contaminants and 58 covers reverse osmosis systems, with a minimum 75% cut in TDS. Pick the G3P800 for a tankless unit whose certifier Waterdrop names, and the RCC7 for a tank system at the lower price. The best tankless reverse osmosis system list prices six under-sink units.
No plumbing: countertop reverse osmosis and a pitcher
A countertop RO system has a tank you fill by hand and plugs in. Waterdrop's K19-SFK is $349.00 with no installation or drilling, a 170 oz tank, 75 GPD and a 3:1 ratio. Its page prints NSF/ANSI 58, and IAPMO R&T's directory lists the K19-SFK under 58 with TDS as its reduction claim. AquaTru's Classic is $475.00 with a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. Pick the K19-SFK for the lower countertop price and the Classic for the guarantee.
For the lowest price, Brita's Tahoe pitcher with an Elite filter is $41.99, and its filter life is 120 gallons or 6 months, per Brita. These formats suit a household that cannot change the plumbing, and the best water filter for apartment guide narrows them for renters.
Under the sink without a membrane
Aquasana's Claryum 3-Stage is $349.99, an under-sink filter with no RO membrane. Aquasana says WQA, a certifier like NSF and IAPMO R&T, tested and certified it to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 (includes P473) and 401. Its Brushed Nickel finish was listed as out of stock on October 14. Pick the Claryum for the widest certification list. Waterdrop's counterparts are its Direct Connect WD-10UA at $58.99 and its TSA at $139.99, which print NSF/ANSI 42 and 372.
Whole house at the main line
Waterdrop's WHF3T-PG is $369.99 with a flow rate of 15 GPM (gallons per minute), and it connects to the main water line; Waterdrop says no plumber is needed. Its only certification line is NSF/ANSI 372, which covers lead-free materials and makes no contaminant-reduction claim, so the reduction claims on its page are Waterdrop's own.
The terms of Waterdrop's paid extended warranty say well water requires pre-filtration. Pick the WHF3T-PG for carbon and sediment filtering at the main line. The best whole house water filter guide prices five more.
How to read certification and returns before buying
Look for the standard that names your concern, and read it on the certifier's listing. For PFAS, EPA says to look on the label for NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 certification. Waterdrop's G3P600, G3P800, X12 and X16 pages name IAPMO R&T, not NSF, as the certifier, and NSF's own listing for the Waterdrop name, searched on October 14, 2026, shows no RO, under-sink or whole-house system.
Returns differ by maker. Waterdrop allows 30 days from receipt within the continental United States; the buyer pays return shipping unless the return is for a quality issue, and items not in like-new condition carry a 10% restocking fee. AquaTru gives a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, and Aquasana allows 90 calendar days with return shipping on the buyer. The Waterdrop review covers the rest of its terms.
