Best whole house water filter: the short answer

The lowest-priced whole house water filters here are Waterdrop's WHF2E-PC at $165.99 and Express Water's WH250SCS at $166.99. Waterdrop sells the WHF3T-FG, $419.99, for iron and manganese, and Aquasana's Rhino costs $1,998.00. All prices are one-time, as read on October 14, 2026.

Test first. For city water, your utility's Consumer Confidence Report, its annual drinking water quality report, lists what it found. For a private well, EPA says to test every year for coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids (TDS) and pH, at a laboratory certified for drinking water.

Waterdrop WHF3T-PG, WHF3T-FG and WHF2E-PC

The WHF3T-PG is $369.99 and the WHF3T-FG $419.99. Both have a flow rate of 15 GPM (gallons per minute) and are rated for water at 40 to 100°F. Waterdrop says the WHF3T-PG connects to the main water lines and needs no plumber. Waterdrop says the WHF3T-FG removes 95.9% of iron and 99.8% of manganese.

The WHF2E-PC is $165.99, and Waterdrop's WHF2E page says each filter lasts up to 50,000 gallons or 6 months and that the unit fits standard 1-inch FNPT threaded connections.

All three carry NSF/ANSI 372 only, a lead-free materials standard with no contaminant-reduction claim, and IAPMO R&T's directory lists them only in its lead-free certificate. Pick the WHF2E-PC for the lowest Waterdrop price in the table, the WHF3T-PG for carbon and sediment filtering at 15 GPM and the WHF3T-FG for iron and manganese.

iSpring WGB32B and Express Water WH250SCS

iSpring's WGB32B is $516.99 and a 3-stage system; Express Water's WH250SCS is $166.99 and a 2-stage system. iSpring's refund policy takes back non-defective open-box returns within 30 days less a 15% restocking fee. Pick Express Water for a 2-stage system at $166.99; Waterdrop vs iSpring covers the two makers' RO systems.

Aquasana Rhino: the premium option

Aquasana's Rhino is $1,998.00 with a 10-Year Limited Warranty, and Aquasana rates it for 1,000,000 gallons or 10 years. Aquasana allows 90 calendar days to return a product, and the buyer pays return shipping. Pick the Rhino for the 10-year warranty; Aquasana alternatives sets it against the other makers.

Well water: test, pre-filter, then choose

A private-well owner who needs a test plan before choosing a whole-house system starts with the yearly lab test EPA describes. EPA says well owners are responsible for their household's water and that federal law does not regulate it. A local health department may test for free, per EPA.

The terms of Waterdrop's paid extended warranty say well water requires pre-filtration, and they allow TDS under 750 ppm and hardness under 7 grains per gallon. Waterdrop's BG100 is a reusable 5 micron spin-down sediment filter, a pre-filter you flush, at $169.99 and 20 gpm. Waterdrop's G3P600 page also asks that well feed water pass through a pre-filtration system first. Best home water filtration systems shows the other jobs.
