Waterdrop X Series: the X12 and X16 tankless RO systems

The X12 and X16 at a glance

As read on October 14, 2026, the Waterdrop X12 was $1,299.00 and the X16 $1,999.00, one-time prices for the system with filters bought later, rated 1200 and 1600 GPD at a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio, and Waterdrop gives the X Series a 2-year limited warranty. Waterdrop's X12 page lists NSF/ANSI 42, 58 and 372, while its NSF page lists only 58 and 372 for the X12 and X16; IAPMO R&T's directory lists the WD-X12 and WD-X16 under NSF/ANSI 42, 58 and 372, and its NSF/ANSI 58 rows name one reduction claim, TDS.

GPD is the membrane's daily output rating, not the flow at the tap, and 3:1 means one gallon goes to the drain for every three of treated water. On the spec lines Waterdrop prints, the two models differ in rated output and in their RO filter; size, ratio, stage count, faucet and certification line are the same.

What the X12 and X16 need under the sink

Both spec lines say "Electricity Required: Yes" and "Indoor use only", so the cabinet needs an outlet, and as reverse osmosis systems both send reject water to a drain. Waterdrop gives 18.2 x 6.25 x 16.72 inches for each unit.

Waterdrop's compare page marks the X16, X12 and G3P800 as needing a hole drilled in the countertop for the faucet. The X12 page's "View the Report" button opens the user manual; read its installation section before you drill.

What Waterdrop says and what the listing shows

Waterdrop's X12 and X16 pages list TDS, PFOA, PFOS, chlorine, fluoride, barium, arsenic, salt, sediment, chromium-VI, lead and microplastics among the substances the system reduces, and say it was tested and certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 58 for the claims on its Performance Data Sheet.

IAPMO R&T's directory lists the WD-X12 and WD-X16 under NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine, taste and odor, under NSF/ANSI 58 with one reduction claim, TDS, and under NSF/ANSI 372 for lead-free materials. Neither is in its NSF/ANSI 53 certificate, which lists PFOA/PFOS for the G3P600 and G3P800, so the PFAS, fluoride and lead lines on the X pages are Waterdrop's own claims.

The X12 page also says SGS certified the filter to reduce over 1,000 impurities; SGS is a testing laboratory, and its test is not an NSF or IAPMO R&T listing. Is Waterdrop NSF certified? sets every model's lines side by side.

Filters, warranty and returns

The X12 and X16 pages print the same three filter lives: up to 12 months or 1,100 gallons, up to 6 months or 550 gallons, and up to 24 months or 2,200 gallons for the RO filter (the X12-F3 or the X16-F3). Filters are bought separately, once or on a subscription that Waterdrop prices at 5% off.

Both product pages show a 2-year warranty, and Waterdrop's service policy says eligible X Series RO systems carry a 2-year limited warranty while most of its other RO systems carry 1 year. Waterdrop's service policy allows returns within 30 days of receipt for orders in the continental United States; you pay return shipping unless the return is for a quality issue, and items not returned in like-new condition carry a 10% restocking fee.
